Hi Everyone,

Would really appreciate some friendly advice please, Im new to this forum so hello to everyone :)

Im selling my car (not a Merc) and have been offered a 2002 ('52 plate) E320 CDi which apparently is a Brabus Diesel D6 and badged up as so - 87,000 miles, 3 owners, black with grey leather interior, no sat-nav . Now I dont know anything about Brabus to be honest, so Im struggling to ascertain a valuation. Its got a quad exhaust (presume brabus) but does not have brabus wheels - some other 20" chrome jobbies instead. The engine did have a brabus 'sticker' on it..... but how can I check its not just a sticker ;)

I did a search on parkers for the trade value of an E320 diesel with this mileage and it came up with £9000 (!) possible less as it is very high mileage. No idea if this is right. So how much is this Brabus aftermarket stuff all worth?!?

The guy who is selling it thinks it is worth £25,000 to put things in perspective. Judging by the way negotiations usually go this is just an opening gambit of sorts.

Your thoughts MUCH appreciated, Thanks is advance

Adrian

Hi & Welcome,

The full Brabus D6 conversion was ~£25,000. It is quite rare and I have only seen 1 on the road. As for valuation I would do a search and see if there are any for sale at one of the specialist dealers.
That is not even high mileage at ~ 20,000 p.a. IMHO the fact that it has been used is much better than if it had been sat around with very few miles.

Thanks Blobcat!

25K for the conversion !!!!!!!! wow that is incredible. They must do something pretty special.... not just a remap eh?

I cant find any for sale at the moment. Is the market for these car pretty small? I mean a super fast Diesel is not everyones cup of tea, right?

Thanks for any further thoughts, as Im wondering whether I will be able to sell it on easily.....

Blobcat, you cant mean that, a car with 20k is always worth more than one that has been 100k

Personally I would steer clear of this and buy a 'normal' CDi model. And much easier to sell on too.

I know that low mileage cars are generally priced higher and that to most buyers low mileage is still sought after. However I have seen so many issues with cars 2,3,4 yrs old with very low miles for the year, that I would rather have a car that has been regularly used. To me a 4 yr old car with 80K is better than a 4 yr old car with 15K.

This is an interesting subject, maybe dependent on how the car has been garaged/stored. Do you remember the photos that someone put up for a car that had not been driven for 8 years and had been garaged the whole time, the sills had almost rusted right off and were hanging down in lumps.

There has to be a middle of the road answer somewhere.

I'd agree with that. Be interesting to see the perf figs vs the 320cdi sport, which in the estate is close to 7 to 60, and 150top, with lots of torque things. 7speed auto, with paddle things on the s/wheel, lowered susp, big alloys etc etc. No warranty questions, and (relatively) easy to re-sell.

Thanks for the advice. I have said a flat NO to the deal.

To be honest, I dont think anyone knows what it is worth (including traders ive asked), so essentially that means its probably a 'normal' E320 CDi trade price (£9500) plus perhaps 2-3K for the mods = £12,500.

Then it aint gonna sell for ages until the right person comes along....

I reckon the seller damn well new this and was trying to pull the wool over my eyes (£25K !!!), it makes me a little angry thinking about it actually.
