Water pump and oil cooler. Had to replace both on mine when it hit around the 100,000 mile mark.
Water pump is unbelievably cheap plastic as well known to fail.
Starts leaking coolant

My 2014 Eclass w212 220 leaked from the fuel heater housing...its a common problem in them. And one of the signs is despite an obvious water loss...there's no easy to see external signs, unless you are prepared to do a bitt of striping around the unit itself. or if you have a camera scope.

Absolutely correct, water pump that came out was cheap plastic rubbish. Replacement pump, genuine MB part was much better metal construction!

Statt housings manifolds to name a few more. Statt was about a fiver, get Benz involved now 100,manifolds cook em coke gone, and they never really got coked up. Now plastic often near impossible to clean 200++ to replace due to a child like egr design, designed to block up,! , real green for environment and yr wallet. green thing latest snafu imposed on motorists by state and makers.
Green wud be, make em to last, make em upgradable, hammer tax on throwing em away when still good, Sans accident w/off.

a rtn to 60,s business model of Makin stuff to last and we were able to do it. As a youngster I could inherit my 105e from my grandfather and get about in it easily and economically, while I saved for something, hopefully, but not always better.
Where are the collectors cars of tomorrow going to came from, it's done?

Smart + others :)
Water pump, thermostat, fuel filter housing, water cooled egr gasket, heater pipe and radiator To name the common places. All can leak due to the plastic going brittle. :(

My friend's 1999 124 apart from normal servicing, only needed new handbrake cables since he got it many years ago. Still Daily driver, with only car park dings on it.

They do say the W124 was the last real mercedes benz. I would agree.
Things just not built the same anymore. Its counter productive to 'business' where now there is zero customer loyalty

Still, I was speaking to an MB owner who said that he had driven his 2010 E class w212 for 297000 miles trouble free..original engine and transmission. Secret was frequent oil and filter changes, every 6000 miles. None the less, not every one tells the same story..and replacing metal parts with plastic ones are largely to blame for that.
