Discovered an airlock in my coolant system after changing a perished coolant pipe. According to Haynes I can bleed it out via the coolant sensor housing. My question is which item on top of the cylinder head is the coolant sensor housing as Haynes (bless 'em!) dont give you any picture of where it is!!!

The car is a 1989 W124 3.0 SOHC.

Help!!!

Why not just take the cap of the expansion tank and run the engine at a fast idle, any air in there will soon find its way out.
( you'll know its clear when the water level drops )

Also by squeezing the bottom hose and the top hose (the big ones) will dispel any air

Yep, tried a bit of that this evening. Top hose got quite hot (obviously:Oops:) and felt as if there was not a huge amount of water going through it. Ran it for about 5 mins or so whilst squeezing hoses but not 100% sure if it has worked fully. Just wanted to check via the sensor housing before I set off on a 250 mile journey with the wife and dogs on Friday! I'll give it another go tomorrow.

Thanks for your quick replies chaps!:D
