Cooling fan issue

Hi, This is my first post so not happy it has to be a problem. I have a CLK 280 soft top and love it but yesterday the front cooling fan continued working for about 15/20 seconds after I turned off the engine and took the key out. The engine temp was normal and did not fluctuate but the cooling fan warning light came on. I have just checked it again and the same thing happened even after the engine only turning over for about 30 seconds. Coolant level seems OK.
Could this just be a sensor or something more expensive?

Just wondering if there are any DIY fixes I (or husband) could do.

Hello. It's actually normal for the fan to sometimes carry on after the engine is off, but not to show a warning light.

Have a look at the specialistfinder link on here, I beleive there are some good indies in your neck of the woods.

Hello and welcome! I can only second what others have said, you have some excellent indies down your way, spend £40-50 for a problem diagnosis at one of them and have a professional look at it rather than guessing, it could be one of a number of causes.

As a side note I have an A6 Avant which sometimes the fan runs fully 15 minutes after stopping/parking up!!

All sorted. Took my merc to Waterhouse MB garage in Braintree, Essex after a recommendation. They were brilliant. Diagnostics and repaired whilst I waited. It was the wiring and sensor. Very helpful and cannot recommend them enough. Charged less than Mercedes Colchester wanted just to run diagnostic!!!!!
