Hi guys I’ve got a 2011 c220 cdi om651 engine on 143k now last few days under hard acceleration I can hear like a whooshing noise from the left side of the engine took it a Merc Indy garage near where I live but he did not seem very helpful. He test drove the car and heard the noise himself then, got me to rev the car while he listened under the Bonnet. He said noise sounds like it’s coming from the inlet manifold or under the egr cooler and that he could see smoke. Could this be a cracked inlet or maybe a split pipe as I know this is a long shot asking on here but he can’t fit me In till the 23rd of January. Car is driving fine mo codes no eml light on at all. Would say a normal garage be able to handle a job like this or is it best to wait for him. Sorry I know this sounds like a stupid question just wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem at all

I would wait.
I would expect a smoke test to find the culprit.
If you're lucky it will be the air duct below the EGR,
or the throttle valve.
But, apparently, the inlet manifold is known as a weakness.

Yeah it only seems to happen when you really rev the car on idle or floor it when driving apart from that the car is running fine not even in limp mode that’s my only hope of it not being cracked as I’ve been reading it puts the car into limp mode and won’t go over 20mph

if it is the split will grow and may go in limp mode

I think it'll be easy to find - the big fat pipes from the turbo... into the inter-cooler and back out to the inlet manifold

If you shine a torch down beside the oil filter housing you can see the aluminium fins of the oil cooler. If it’s black with oil down there your inlet manifold is leaking boost. Here’s one wot I did…

Is it a expensive job as to be spending a lot of money just after Christmas is to much I’ve seen them eBay for around 100 pound obviously pattern part that should keep the cost down I suppose as long as there ok to use
