Investigating an oil leak under my 250d  88 saloon. I discovered some swine had used filler to attempt to fill a crack in the sump case which runs 6 inches down the casing from what looks like an overtightened bolt . The cross member is in the way and it seems the only way to sort it is to take out the engine.
Does anyone have any ideas how this can be fixed?
I located a 2nd hand sump cover but they want £100 for it. Is there another less expensive way to permenantly fix this problem
how costly is it likely to be? would ali welding be an option?
I am also looking for some seats for the car possibly leather or tex and an instrument panel as the odometer has broken on mine.
I paid 2k for it 6mths ago should I be looking for something else?
Thanks

Have you checked the price of a new sump??

Aluminium welding might be an option, but you'd then need to flush the burnt oil etc out of the sump once finished. It might be better, in fact to clean it first, so that you get less burnt residue. Perhaps this is best done with the sump unbolted from the crankcase(?)

If the crack starts at the drain plug, you will also need to make sure that it is properly re-faced to obtain a good seal.

Hi

You will have to remove the sump before any permanent repair can be made. You will struggle if doing on your back. You will have to remove the engine mounting bolts and jack the engine up as far as you can. It will be EXTREMELY difficult to get the sump in and not damage the gasket.

Personally I would get it repaired professionaly. Either way. Good luck
