Dear Exxon Customer Services

I am extremely alarmed at the 30% increase in fuel consumption since you swapped to Ethanol infected, low energy petrol’s.

Your own website suggests in my area I should be able to purchase E0, labelled as E5 99 octane super unleaded Esso. This has a ridiculous cost per litre and carries a caveat “subject to availability”. Please can you explain

1) Exactly how you step back the purchase price when its not E0 super unleaded coming from pumps labelled as such?

2) Control rogue forecourts and delivery drivers, pumping in E10 rubbish and pocketing the difference?

3) How I can with 100% confidence understand I got what I paid for, ensuring my vehicle works as intended and what I need to ride safely ?

4) Why your fuel is no longer fit for purpose – yet is advertised as better than the competition ? Its abundantly clear you are shipping and selling substandard fuel with silly pricing.

All four vehicles I regularly drive / ride have been running atrociously even though I have been filling exclusively with extortionately expensive and alleged to be Esso E0 fuel. I believe I’m getting cheap dangerous petrol from you forecourts and the bike in particular is unsafe to operate since you made substantial changes to your products during qrt 3 last year.

I have been filling from three stations. Esso Bath Road Sough Berks, Esso Desborough HighWycombe Bucks, Esso Gore road Burnham Bucks in to four different vehicles. For the last 6 months filling ONLY from pumps labelled and charged as pumping out Esso E5 Super unleaded 99, yet all of these vehicles (that used to perform very well with your old Super unleaded 99 Octane fuels) are underperforming and are using massively more petrol than before. As an ex motor vehicle tech – I know all four vehicles are in good condition and serviced correctly.

My Mercedes S500 has dropped 32% of its mpg using Esso E10 95 octane in qrt 3-4 last year. Moving to E0 99 octane Esso it has only fractionally improved remaining down some 20% over three 90 ltr tank-fulls of your alleged super unleaded fuel.

Yet I just got an instant 17% increase over the weekend by pumping in budget Asda unleaded 95 – and charged at 45 pence a litre less than you charge for E0 99 octane!

My motorcycle a BMW R1200GS is almost unridable on the rubbish you have been selling over the last 7 months in forecourts near me – yet your own website states I should be getting your super unleaded fuel.

Please can you answer all the points one to four above and then explain what is going on, and how you will refund the £120 your company has stolen from me ? Otherwise I will have to stop buying your fuels - and will need to alert others to this nasty experience.

Yours Sincerely

Nice one Botus! You have to stick it to them but I’m sure you will expect some half wit to be replying in the first instance with some gibberish default response.

Very interesting though as one who uses such fuels religiously and knows theirs vehicles knows when and what is not right!

Thats the big problem with this country now, and around the World! Too many Shysters ripping everyone else off!

Do not expect it to get better, the world will simply become more of a dog eat dog world as the years continue.

Have you tried a different brand?
yes (in my post) after 8 months of the stuff vanishing for almost no miles driven in any of the vehicles - I just put budget asda stuff and it jumped in the right direction - which would suggest somehow esso have created special fuel that starts the engine but does basically nothing else

Over on the bike section... I had been using 97 esso super unleaded a few years back... but the bike never ran any different - then a mate said read the petrol tank label 98 or above !!! - was about to fill with shell 95 (as I had almost run out) when I suddenly saw there's said 98 super - so filled with that and the bike ran very different (happier and much faster)

then talking about ethanol degradation and the Bike shop (Larry at PDQ) said Esso is E0 in this area and low and behold their website says the same - then they moved to 99 and it seemed very good - so I was buying that to save the metal eating monsters that breed in ethanol petrol (true !!!!).... buts its gone horrible

https://www.esso.co.uk/en-gb/fuels/petrol

"Although our pumps have E5 labels on them, our Synergy Supreme+ 99 is actually ethanol free (except, due to technical supply reasons, in Devon, Cornwall, North Wales, North England and Scotland). Legislation requires us to place these E5 labels on pumps that dispense unleaded petrol with ‘up to 5% ethanol’, including those that contain no ethanol, which is why we display them on our Synergy Supreme+ 99 pumps."
