I wonder if anyone has information regarding the current 350 engine's fuel consumption? The reason I ask is that my SLK gets around 27-28 mpg on a longish journey (although only 18-20 if I hoof it around town). A friend has a CLK 350 which has only returned him 17.5-18.0 mpg at best.

Obviously there are weight differences between the cars (he's quite a big lad ;)) but there is quite a discrepancy there.

Can anyone offer any experience as he's concerned there may be a problem with his car.

Oh, both cars are 2005 UK models.

Ta,
Kev.

Silly question, but Are they the same engine? The slk is definatly a 272 engine and it might be possible that the clk has the older 112.972 in it.

If they are both 272 engines then his does sound low but he may just have a generally heavy foot!!

I have had 2 C350 coupes and i get what your slk gets.

That's a good question as mine is a 272 and the current CLK 350 cabrio is a 272 but I don't know if the 2005 was a 272 jobbie. I'll have to ask or look it up somewhere.

Hello again, it doesnt look like the 112 350 engine was in the clk, so that theory is out of the window!!!!

I doubt anything will be wrong with his car, just the way its driven.

I got 27.0 out of my c350 on the way home tonight, 30 miles, part dualcarridge way part town, fairly heavy traffic all the way, gentle with throttle, which i think is good.

I have a 2005 SLK350 and my fuel consumtion averages just over 25mpg during normal driving. That's a combination of rural B-road (50-70mph with some overtaking) and a little town driving whilst traffic is relativley light.

It's better on a long run but I haven't measured it yet......
