My father, who is 78, owns 2 Mercedes, 1 is in fabulous condition, the other is decaying under a tarpaulin! He was recently followed home whilst driving his every day carriage by a complete stranger who offered to buy it off him! Never having previously considered selling it, he now is thinking about it but has no idea what it is worth. I do not know if this is an appropriate way to find out but thought I would give it a try. The car is a 1984 Mercedes 200 w123 in brilliant red with cloth trim. mileage ia 101,000, he has had it about 12 years. Overall condition I would classify as excellent (but then again what would I know I am a company car driver!). I believe there are 3 previous owners, and whilst he has always had the vehicle maintained regularly he does not use an MB dealer. The car is a 5 speed manual. With 3 previous owners obviously he cannot guarrantee the miles but in 12 years of ownership nothing has ever given him cause to doubt it.
The other vehicle is also a 200, also in brilliant red but automatic, 1981, for some reason he has kept it under a tarpaulin unused for about 10 years so I can only assume that any value it may have would only be as a restoration project, are there such people out there? Actually now that I think about it it does have another value, removing it would stop my mother moaning about its continued presence, for some reason she feels justified in moaning to me rather than the actual culprit!
I would appreciate any advice that those in the know felt inclined to offer.
