De-badging.

Hi,

what's the best way to get the E350 and CDI badges off the boot?

Hairdryer + plastic scraper?

Fishing line?

Any other ideas?

Hairdryer/heat gun and fishing nylon or indeed dental floss will work equally as well. Have some IPA ready to soften and remove any residual stickiness. No scraper if you can avoid it

A little heat (Her indoors hairdryer will do ) dental floss, and Halfrauds do a product called “Sticky Stuff Remover” which is great and shifts all the residue left behind.

Any petrol based product will work for removing sticky stuff, WD40 is a good one or Vaseline if it needs to dwell for a little while

Did this to my CLS and got some product from Halfords to get the glue off the bodywork.
For me, on an 08 car it took a long time to come off.
Warmed up area with hairdryer a lot and used fishing reel to slide it behind badges and drag off. then spray the product, wait, clean and repeat for ages.

Maybe slightly less effective than some other solvents, but I've found plain old methylated spirits to be an essential non-aggressive solvent to have around the home. It makes short work of removing any sticky residue after label removal etc, without doing any damage to what's underneath. After the hair dryer/fishing line primary treatment, I'd try meths first, possibly a bit slow and needing hard rubbing, but you have to be careful with modern paints, water-based ones are far less durable than older solvent-based products.

Well the CDi came off cleanly without much of a fight, so after lunch will give the rest of it a go

You could Add an AMG badge in its place .

Don’t forget to wax where I’ve removed the badges/applied anything to remove the sticky stuff as you’ll have stripped off any wax (no wax under the letters!)
