Having problems with the 190e. Still no start and run.
Proved fuel pump relay, fuel pump, fuel, ignition but to make no mistakes, changed plugs, cap and rotor arm.
Bridged terminals on F.P.R. etc,etc.
When I can "catch" it and get it ro start and run, it only runs high up the rev range, running and being responsive to the throttle, but dies when allowed to run below 2000 rpm.
I have checked but can see no obvious potato up the twin tails, however I am now beleaving the CAT may have collapsed.
Running fine , no problems at all at all, stopped for a few hours (say allowing the CAT to cool maybe) and no start since.
Car is a 93 and has 116K miles on clock (verified)

Any clues people?? what happens when youre CAT collapses??

Replies and input received with thanks

I'm no expert on mechanics but I don't think a blown cat would cause the engine not to run at all. The cat on my SLK320 disintegrated and the only really noticeable effect was that it rattled all the time. There was a bit of a loss of power, presumably because the honeycomb filters were no longer aligned properly - or at all - causing greater back pressure, but that's all. I guess it's possible the cat has broken up and completely blocked the flow of exhaust but I would doubt it. Could be wrong.
