Dealer Service Quotation...what do you think??

Hi guys

I'm due an A Service on my W209 CLK 320 in 400 miles so I thought I would get a quote for what needs to be done

Firstly I called Mercedes Benz Romford and they quoted me £640 as my spark plugs should be done (this costs £380 alone!)

I then called SN Autos in Hainult who specialise in Mercedes, BMW and Porsche and they have quoted me £185 for the service and not a question about the plugs.

I have bought the car around 2 months ago now and on the service book it has spark plugs ticked as being changed 2 years ago (I don't know how much to believe that as I know garages don't complete the service stamps 'properly' sometimes)

What do you suggest I do as I don't want to spend £380 on something I don't need especially as I have just ordered the AMG bumpers last month for £2000.

Last question....I have noticed ever since the car has gone into less than 500 miles until service A is due the performance is a little more sluggish and also the gear changes don't seem as smooth...what could this be....or is it just because its due a service?

I too think mine's become a little lumpy at tickover since "500 miles to go..." appeared on the speedo.
Or, are we getting a little conspiritorial ???
Probably just a co-incidence.
I bought mine a year ago almost to the day and part of the deal was a MB service. Well according to where I've now booked mine in (this Wednesday), they say just the minimum "basic" service was carried out last year (and no "extras"). Consequentally there's a whole list of extras on top of the "A" service's £275 inc.
I've to have new air filters, fuel filters, brake fluid and for the twelve plugs replaced alone, £326 inc (a little cheaper then yours....) .
So I'm looking at approaching a thousand pounds for my first "A" "the smallest" service.
Ouch !!!!!

I think I am going to go to an Indie as some of the 'mandatory work' as the dealer calls it has already been done in the last 2 years ie. brake fluid etc.

Funny how the sluggishness has happened to both of us...I wouldn't be suprised if there was a connection to the service countdown......hmmmmm...

sorry to sound stupid, but what do we mean by INDIE? Is it a common term used for independent Merc dealer??? if yes, does anyone know of a list of INDIE garages?
