Decat??

Hello there, I'm new to this forum and hope it will be as friendly as other motor enthusiast forums I have visited!

I have a 1992 500SL.

What I would like to know is, can it be "decatted", and who could supply the pipe that I would need to replace the CAT?

I think I am correct in saying that the car is old enough such that it does not need to pass the CAT test for its MOT, correct me if I am wrong!

This has come up a few times previously so pls have a search around.

Some owners have the cat cut open then removed the inside and have it welded back up.

If your car is registered post August, 1992 which is when 'cat equiped' became compulsory then it will be 'cat emissions tested' at MOT, whether the cat is fitted or not (due to you removing it) ........you need to be sure that your car will meet the emissions requirement with the cat removed.

You also legaly need to have the CAT fully functional at all times not just the MOT test day.
The law states that a CAT shall be fitted (post 8/92) regradless of whether the vehicle passes an emmisions test.
