Hi There,
I've noticed a smell of diesel in my 2004 E320CDI Estate AvG the last few mornings. Only noticeable when I get in for the first time. Anybody else experienced this kind of thing?

A couple of possible options;
Did you overfill last time and get any on your feet which then wiped of on the carpets?
Did the garage not have any diesel gloves so you ended up with diesel transferred onto the steering wheel?
Either of these you would notice as you entered the car but get used to after awhile. Bit like going back into the toilet just after you've left it :)
If it is something more serious, have you noticed any wet patches under the car?

Above suggestions sound sensible. There aren't any places where the fuel system enters the cabin. If it were drifting in through the vents then you'd smell it more when the car (and heater) were running and if there is a leak, given the pressures involved, you'll see a trace either under the car or in the engine bay. As diesel is oil it doesn't evaporate like petrol, but would leave a greasy mess somewhere.
Far more likely its in the carpets or on the wheel, especially as you smell it more when you've left the car for some time. With the heater off, the airflow in the car is stagnant so any odour can build up. As soon as the heater starts, the air is replaced regulary and you won't notice it.

Hi,

I had a diesel smell once in a while, sometimes it was strong... a blocked breather pipe near the fuel tank was the culprit... replaced and the smell has gone
