I had it done last year, they couldnt tell me exactly what it was going to do and they were virtually insisting it got done, they offered some freebies with it. I agreed in the end in a moment of weakness..
That seems to be reminding me of something else that has been happening recently….:D

Both of our diesels have had recalls, C class for two air bags and emissions, A class for drivers airbag and emissions. They want the C class for a whole day but the A class for just a few hours. All booked in for the 22nd and 29th March. If it weren’t for the airbags I probably wouldn’t bother but I bet they wouldn’t do one without the other.

That's a bit of a defeatist attitude? Of course they would do one without the other! It's Your car and Your choice! tell them what you want and what you don't and tell them what will happen as well if they claim one was done automatically while the car was connected to Xentry Germany! It's compulsory in Germany and nowhere else!

My Indy told me when the car is connected to Germany he does not get to choose which updates are applied. Maybe one of the Indies on here can confirm or not?

You mean a bit like this helpful receptionist? The above sounds more like a poor excuse for human error, computers do exactly what humans tell them to do! Providing of course the humans in question know what they're doing! :)

Updates will be based on vin although there will be generic updates depending on what its for specifically.

Some of us didn’t get the choice; on my previous car back in December 2020, whilst in for MOT, MB of Stockport (LSH Auto) decided to carry out the emissions update without my consent (indeed without even so much as mentioning it to me).

They then proceeded to tell me a pack of lies in an attempt to cover their tracks.

I’m sure not all Mb dealerships would act in such an unethical manner, but just putting it out there.
That is exactly what happened to me. The software was installed without my permission during a routine service. After a couple of days folioing the "upgrade" the "500 miles until we refuse to let you drive" from Biog Brother Mercedes came on.

The dealer claimed that if they put the original software back the NOX sensors would then break ... even though they were not defective before the change. Two days after the new software they claimed that "just by coincidence" I now need to replace the AdBlue tank because now the pump is producing "too much pressure."

I have asked Mercedes to pay for the replacement tank and am waiting for their reply. If they don't pay my next step is to contact one of the law firms prosecuting the UK class action litigation to see if they want the old tank for testing. I am confident there is nothing wrong with it.

Based on my experience ... DO NOT HAVE THIS SOFTWARE INSTALLED.

Has anyone else needed to replace their AdBlue tank after the upgrade, a £2,300 "repair?"

I'm told my car suffered an AdBlue pump failure which, by coincidence, occurred on my 2012 S320 two days after having the emissions software update installed without my permission during a routine main dealer service.

The update (recall SMPC770) seems related to the emissions scandal. A couple days after the update, the Engine Management Light (EML) activated. The dealer then claimed the AdBlue pump is defective, exhibiting unusually high pressure. This seems an unusual mode of failure, and I am curious if others have had similar experiences, particularly with older vehicle models after the cursed software update.

It seems astonishing that I'm expected to believe that after 12 years working perfectly the pump failed a couple of days after the software was installed. Just by coincidence.

Anyone else?

Too many coincidences to be a coincidence methinks.

I had a NOX sensor go accompanied by an EML and countdown. The car had not had the software update as I was already suspicious of it.

Unfortunately the new NOX sensor requires a software update to work That was just over a month ago, so I'm now waiting for the inevitable.

Wow, I've got the recall letter, in fact I've had Two, but the cars running lovely (kiss of death) don't think I'll bother.

Off course the updates are related to the emissions scandal. MB are trying to avert any claims. There and many law firms running round with the heads in fire trying to get customers signed up.

I only had the Airbags done, the Emissions is optional
Ah, so as long as you tell them no emissions they won't do it, that's good, as mine's mapped, I presume it would be wiped. :)

Exactly the same reason I refused it

Not quiet. When they carry out an update its my understanding ALL gets updated, you can't choose which or what, you don't own the software!!

Chapter and verse.... And why I go nowhere near updates...
