Hi just purchased a 208d 2.4 van for my sons mx racing,I believe one of the pre heaters has gone down as the light does not come on when I turn on the ignition,anyone know what these are like to change?Also there is a bit of string(!)to stop the engine,what set up should there be,there seems to be some sort of vaccum arrangement going on where the string goes?is there a part that fails?by the way its a '89.Thanks a lot for any help...

If one of the glowplugs has failed the light should illuminate as normal, then go out. After engine start the light will then come back on flashing for about 30s.

Test each glow-plug with a meter and check to see if there is 12v being fed when the ignition is switched on form cold. It sounds like the glow plug relay may be faulty.

The stop should vacuum operated. The diaphragm will be split. The part will be available from an MB dealer or Bosh diesel centre.

Thanks dieselman,I don't suppose you know where the relay is located do you?the light definatly does not come on at first but when the van has started it comes on but does not flash!The van starts fine though.My first diesel by the way...
