Hi Guys,

Does anyone understand difference between Services A and B for E class. I've got a quote from local dealer for Major B service at nearly £400 but it does not include brake fluid change, air filter change or dust filter change - just the standard oil filter and oil.

I understand A service includes oil and oil filter so why bother with B service if it doesn't include any additional replacements?

Regards,

B service has a lot more checks on top of the oil and filter change .

As you say , brake fluid , gearbox , fuel filters , spark plugs , air filters are all extras added to the A or B service dependent on time/mileage

A B usually includes a brake fluid change, but they often go out of sync (ending up with an A +brake fluid then a B). In that case we charge for an A on a B (if that makes any sense)

The numbers/letters after usually indicate additional items (dust filter, gearbox service, fuel filter etc) but they always include an engine oil and filter change.

MB also do full checks on a b (we do them on both)

That's for a B, without any brake fluid change or air/dust filter change

Yes those are dealer prices for you. We are £180 for the same work.

Most independents will be much more cost effective and update the digital service record etc.

Welwyn Merx , Welwyn GC any good for you ?
Their quote, although cheaper, not that far off the dealer unfortunately...

B service usually inlcudes pollen filter and key batteries - although you may have to prompt for the batteries,

As others have said, the checks are more extensive on B service, but dealers usually have their own vehicle health check which covers most points anyway.

You can see the work here (may have to play around with age and mileage to get it show each service): https://lite.servicemercedes.co.uk/ess/pc/

They did an excellent Gearbox oil change. And a real clean out too. Our local main Dealer, just drops the oil and puts in new. So a gig difference … and at half the cost.
Very knowledgable Guys.
For other big stuff, like replacing ABC struts and ABC oil I drive to MBS in Southampton!
IMO its worth it.

I just looked at the ESS for an example of car - quite odd as A service mentions things like checking steering and suspension. B service doesn't mention it!

Maybe even the 'routine' work has become mileage / time dependent?

Designed for newer vehicles, the A Service is the smaller service and the cheaper of the two options. Your Mercedes-Benz will most likely require its first A Service once it reaches one year old, and typically every 2 years thereafter.

The A Service includes:
  • Synthetic Motor Oil Replacement
  • Oil Filter Replacement
  • Tire Inflation Check & Correction
  • Brake Component Inspection
  • Reset Maintenance Counter
The B Service is a major service best suited to older Mercedes-Benz vehicles or vehicles that clock up more mileage. It is more costly than an A Service, but it is more extensive. You can arrange a B Service approximately one year after an A Service, and usually every 2 years subsequently, depending on the average number of miles you drive per year.

The B Service includes:
  • Synthetic Motor Oil Replacement
  • Oil Filter Replacement
  • Cabin Dust/Combination Filter Replacement
  • Tire Inflation Check & Correction
  • Brake Component Inspection
  • Reset Maintenance Counter

Its all vin specific and bear in mind there was Assyst, then Assyst (went through some changes 2006-8), then came Assyst Plus.

Just go by the ESS and thats it, If your car has an Auto-box which comes up as never a service item, get it done every 37.5k.
