Digital speedometer reading in Km

Hi

I have recently purchased a 05 C200 CDi, and very pleased to have found this forum.

One problem I cannot seem to solve is that the digital readout for the speed in the central readout is in KM, can this be changed to Miles?

Yes it can be done, needs a star machine to adjust the codings in the cluster!!

It can be done on STAR but if you go abroad you will have no Km on the dash.

An indie will change it for you on STAR.

Not sure if I'm comparing apples and pears but mine shows the reading in mph and underneath in smaller font the kph.

And to add to the confusion, I can just swap back and forth between kph/mph degrees C/F and a few more things just by using the finger controls on the steering wheel

Yes, me too. I use the digital KPH when "in the foreign". Can't see why that would not satisfy the rules - I doubt if they specify a speedometer in any greater detail.

Clarification

Just to clarify matters.

I can alter the odomenter from Miles to K with the sterring wheel buttons, what I am refering to is the spped reading in the lower panel that gives
the speed, and the gear you are in with an Auto box, and something else I cant remember.

The idea is that EU cars must be able to display both MPH and KMH

It's the UK Mode that UK cars are coded with. As Malcolm says UK cars must be able to display kph. For some reason MB seem to think UK drivers are incappable of setting this display as and when required (i.e. when driving abroad)

Some one with STAR and the knowledge can delete this "UK Mode" leaving you to descide what to display.

I have mine displaying the outside temp instead of kph. Far more usefull (when in the UK)

Ive only had my CLS a wekk and Ive no idea ho to change from KM to MPH or Celsius to farenheit on the big display let alone the little KPH display. Too many gadgets not enough time to play with them :mrgreen:
