Hi Dieselman
I did think that it was jamming open hence the surging, was guessing I was loosing boost back through the EGR and the engine management was constantly having to vary the throttle to try and keep the speed.
I am going to keep monitoring the results and yesterday I did a run of about 35 miles from home up to the Isle of Dogs along the A2, had an indicated 52.3mpg and the average MPG after reset is now 41.7mpg.

Alan.
I dont know with your car if the mod is possible on your car, only way to tell would be to see if there is vacuum lines to the valve. Im sure someone will come along and tell you either way.

Is this mod possible on a 2004 E320 CDI, I was led to believe that I had an electronic EGR rather than vacuum controlled?

Currently returning about 32mpg on average (local runs) and I do see some light smoke from the rear when kicking down to move swiftly.

Thanks
It will be possible as all the mod does is fool the MAF sensor into thinking the EGR valve is operating, when in fact it isn't.

I haven't looked into exactly how the electric valve operates, but it only has three wires, so I suspect it's one to supply +12v, a signal return and a sensor..or similar.

That would be great if it could be disabled, from reading all these posts it appears that the EGR is bad for power and fuel consumption.

Just need someone with the knowledge now to determine how it's done.

A metal plate as a blank would do then use the active low signal wire as the trigger for the MAF mod.

This sounds too simple.

So all I need to do is to build my resistors/diode harness up, blank off the EGR aperture after removing the EGR valve and wire in.

As it's electronically operated could I not just leave the EGR valve in situ and disconnect the plug as I presume it remains closed when not activated by the ECU software?

I think it will be an either/or situation.
The valve may be able to be disconnected, alternatively it may need to stay connected as the actual operation might be monitored by the ECU as well as the MAF voltage drop.

You can be the guinea pig.

I'm going to have a go, need to get to Maplins tomorrow to buy my resistors/diode. :D

I'll be tackling this next weekend, I have a stinking cold at the moment and really don't fancy standing out in the rain.

I had a look in the engine comparment, and I don't have a clue as to where the EGR is, I presume the electrics are on the off side, this is on a 2001 E220 Cdi avantgaurde. Cheers for any help.

The electrical box is on the n/s in front of the windscreen, the valve is also the N/s at the front of the intake manifold.

ML 270 CDI BVA 2003
Hello,

I'm French. I have a ML 270 CDI BVA in 2003 with 120,000 km.
I recently removed the shutters of the intake manifold after an oil leak on one of them.

I am very interested in your shunt valve EGR especially by the simplified version of "Termari" echoed by "j911".

If I understand this simplified version with no need to disconnect the EGR valve?

Thank you for your answers

The egr transducer still needs to be disconnected as per your picture. No need to do anything else other than instal the shunt properly.

Thank you for your prompt response.
I realized that with the method of "termori" there was no need to unplug the EGR valve!
So I misunderstood. Thank you for your clarification.

Best regards

Dieselman can you shed any light on disabling EGR on a 2004 C220cdi? Or anybody else?

So on a 7g E320cdi what has changed??

The EGR valve is now electronic?

So I would carry out the mod as usual and then what?

Thanks

Is your EGR valve vacuum operated or electronic, if it's vacuum just do as already demonstrated.

We need to understand how the valve operates.

AFAIK it has s trigger wire, a Gnd and a sensor wire, but this hasn't been checked yet.

In essence you just block the pipe the valve feeds then fool the MAF into seeing lower voltage once the valve operates. No gas gets into the manifold due to the pipe being blocked, but the MAF sees a lower reading due to the mod.

A few probes with a multimeter would probably reveal all, alternatively if someone can look up the circuit we can have a look.
