E220D AMG LINE PREMIUM PLUS Estate 2019
Hi Guys,

I have a 2019 E220D estate which came with 19” run flat tyres, they are coming up for replacement and I would like to move away from the run flats to normal tyres and purchase a space saver wheel. The only issue is all the ones that are new seem to state they won’t fit into the spare wheel compartment under the boot! Is it because they are 19” wheels? I don’t want to carry it around in the boot as I need all the space.

Bit of on oversight by Merc if they don’t fit because of the size.

The urea tank for the ADBLUE injection system fills the space for the spare wheel hence it was dropped in 2013 when the facelift W/S212 was introduced

Many MBs don't have space for a spare in the boot anymore. If replacing run flats with normal tyres MB recommends that you have a Tirefit kit in the boot.

i have an ML55 AMG with the original 18" alloys on it - i cannot find tyres anymore except for continental cross contacts.
has anyone every swapped out for different size alloys? Am i best to go up to 19's? will i need to put spacers in?

As long as you buy wheels with the correct offset and width you won't need spacers for increasing the diameter.
Just remember to drop the profile size accordingly.

Your other option is to look at an increased profile, say 60 (assuming that you have 285/50x18 fitted) it's not a massive increase in rolling diameter.

Unfortunately, like a lot of other cars of that age, you're now restricted due to the current fashion of large diameter wheels with low profile tyres. I suspect that you'll find more tyres for 20" rims than for 19". That said there's a big cost increase if you've got to buy new rims as well.

If cost is an issue you'll be better off sticking with the continentals than buying new rims and tyres together.

I wasn’t sure if I would be able to change to 285 55 r 18 (I do have the 285 50 r 18 on at present)

All the calculators I’ve seen have been all that it’s too much change and that I could damage transmission.

I am more concerned about longevity of supply than anything else

Thank you so much for your reply, tyres confuse me!

Yeah I ordered some and then it got cancelled as OOS, so I think they’re becoming redundant. I’ve had to change tyre spec

The theory in changing tyre size is you can go up or down 2.5% on the original circumference and still stay within tolerances

Yeah that’s what I’ve done. Whacked it in calculator and 255/55/18 is only a 0.6% change so that’s what I’ve gone with :)

The problem you will have is it appears that those alloys need M14 bolts and the W203 used smaller diameter M12 bolts.
Drop an M12 bolt in the alloy and see if there is enough grip around the head of the bolt.
I wouldn't be happy using those wheels on a W203 myself.
What car did those alloys come off? There will be a Part number on the inside face beginning A********

Just to add to the above advice, identifying what the wheels came off will give you the offset and if they are compatible with the W203. You can also check the bolt spec as the M12 and M14 bolts have a different radius on the bolt seat such as R12, R13, R14 etc. You might be able to get the correct radius on the M12 bolt.

If genuine MB the wheels will have dimensions cast into the back of the wheel.
If you don't know what vehicle they came from there should also be a part number which may give some idea.
