Hi All,

Can you help me settle an "argument" about the installation of door sills (non-illuminated)? I think they can be installed outside the dealership. The dealership wants £200 to install them. I told them they were nuts. They said it requires special tools, the removal of some of the trim work, and takes approximately 2-1/2 hours to install by a professional.

What's your opinion?

TIA,

Richard :D

There are various answers to this statement
Bull, Yaboo, Yeah right, F. off, "you're pulling my chain" etc There are so many and all are equally appropriate!

We are talking here about the plastic clip on sill trim?
If my 211 is anything to go on, it clips on. 10 secs - 25 if pushed. One was missing from my car on delivery. The service manager fitted it himself.

Admittedly this may be optomostic if further trim sits over it but it's still a miniscule job.

The 210 has a small foam pad between the centre console and the seat. I broke mine off with some vigorous cleaning. I was told that the car should be booked in for the day, it would be ferried to their trimmers in the next town who would need around 1 1/2 hours to do the work, then ferry the car back. Didn't get as far as a price but we can imagine. I called in and looked at the part, questioned it and was told again that this was definatley necessary. I then took the service man outside to my car. opened the door, leant into the driver's footwell to I could see the fittings, and clipped it on. Took around 1 min (I'm not as flexible as I once was and it was a bit fiddly). I then looked at him and just shook my head. He didn't answer but looked very embarressed.

My Dad was told it was 1hr labour to fit a vanity mirror to his C. He again questioned this and was told that he could do it himself, but he risked breaking the windscreen! - Took him 5 mins and his windscreen survived just fine.

I'm actually referring to the accessory/add on stainless steel door sills (part #B66890063). In the brochure, they look as though they simply stick on with strong adhesive tape. Of course, the dealership is trying to get me to believe other wise. I mean, I will stand corrected if proven otherwise, but I didn't just fall off the turnip truck... I just wanted to make sure before I purchase them from another dealer and find out that I need some special MB tool, etc.

Thanks for your help and advice!
