Drive loss after gearbox overhaul

Hi everyone!
I know from the forum the reputation George Fraser in Alperton has as an excellent automatic gearbox specialist.
I bought my 1998 W210 E240 with a known gearbox fault with loss of drive and I had the box and the torque convertor rebuilt by George Fraser.
When I got the car back it changed thru the gears smoothly and everything was in order.
However after about 5000 miles the car simply lost drive - the engine revving but no pull in any gear.
As the work was under warranty George fixed it and it was fine until tonight when the same problem happened again.
I'm going to call him tomorrow but I'm far from happy about the whole thing really. It makes me feel the car is unreliable.
Has anyone have similar problems either with George or another auto gearboxes specialist.

Thank you!

Hello and welcome to the forum, George Fraser is general repair specialist, not a gear box re builder. These boxes are very good, and not very much trouble.

They must be missing the fault or doing something wrong

I have it from a friend of G F that his level of attention is slipping. Lets hope its only temporary.

George Fraser said today he will fix it again, he sounded surprised that this happens for the second time but should it break again I would consider claiming refund.

Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
Whenever I've had issues with things in life that have been repaired and later failed with exactly the same fault, I've discovered its usually because whoever fixed it just tightened something up, but didn't actually repair whatever it was that caused the component to become loose in the first place. Like the Volvo dealer that had 4 attempts to repair the windscreen trim on my 850, before finally admitting that the windscreen had to come out first to do it properly, or the Audi dealer that repaired the gearbox on my TT by replacing the exhaust and timing chain under warranty....never did understand that one, and sure enough the fault reappeared a month later.

Thank you for the replies! George's recovery guy took the car yesterday. Hopefully for the last time!
