Drive take up

Hi all,
A complete newbie, so hello to everyone,
Having just bought my first Merc, a ML270 Tiptronic 2002 with 53k on the clock I am wondering if there is a problem with the drive, my previous car was a Freelander auto TD4 and the Merc seems to rev around 2-3k revs to get it moving, although I don't have a heavy right foot and when I floor the pedal she certainly takes off but doing this will reduce the mpg.
Question is...............is there any mechanical or electronic adjustments that can be made to make the take up a bit more responsive instead of it feeling like a slipping clutch.

Also what sort of mpg do you guy's get from the ML270?

Hello and welcome.

Have you tried using S on the gearbox setting rather than W that is a second gear start

You should have a separate switch marked S and W. It will be near the gear lever.

This is the Summer/Winter mode switch for the gearbox. In winter mode it will pull away in 2nd gear and change up more quickly. It will disengage above 50mph, but re-engage when speeds drop back down.

ML's dont have a S/W switch.

The high revs on take off is considered 'normal' though i agree that they do seem rather excessive when compared to other auto's that 'lock-up' at an earlier stage.

Yes thank you. I shall endeavour to remember that. For some reason I hadn't even noted that it was an ML.
