Standard , unless in icy weather then I switch to economy in order to select higher gears earlier and lessen the number of gearchanges which might provoke an unexpected skid .

This has been covered many times previously and it really comes down to personal preference. W or S, C or S or even perish the thought M!

C doesn't allow the car to run backwards when you stop on a hill - lots of hills in Cumbria so it's usually C for me.

I usually keep it in C but if I want a quick start then will use S!:D

Is fuel economy not better in C mode?

In town in the rain I have to use W (c) to stop the rear wheels from breaking away on the 500SL and spinning when doing left turns

As I said, I doubt driving in C or S mode would have much effect on the service period (= oil quality)
