DVLA V5c - changing data

Dear all,

My car (recently purchased) started life as a 280E, how now houses a 300D engine.

The DVLA in their wisdom are willing to change the fuel type from petrol to heavy oil, and engine capacity, however are not willing to change the model description. I find the particularly odd as when buying insurance, the broker told me over the phone, after I gave him the number plate, that my car was on their register as a 300D.

Any ideas? I received a letter today from the DVLA saying I must provide a letter from MB UK in order for the V5c to be changed.

Thanks,

Just my thoughts,

The car is not a 300D, it is a 280E which has been modified.
The DVLA will alter to show the mods, but will not call it a 300D,
because essentially it is not.

The insurance market will use the engine size primarily for quoting premiums, but may not be willing to pay out for certain items if it came to the crunch due to them not being standard on both models? In the event of a claim, you could be opening a can of worms so to speak, unless the insurer is aware of the cars history?

many thanks for your replies. what would be the major differences between a 280E and 300D? my insurance company are aware of it being a 300D which started life as a 280E, on the insurance cover note it has been listed as a 300D, should I have this changed back? when it comes to selling, it would always been sold as a converted car.

thanks,
