Hi all, i have a 1996 e230 auto, round head lamp shape, it has 140,000 miles and when cold the timing chain has slight rattle, does this want replacing or adjusting, if possible to adjust. Also the car runs ok but lacks power it feels like its holding back and sluggish, when slowing at a round about then accelerating it has no power then backfires and then changes down a gear. hope you can help.

Hi,
sluggish and back fire could be mixture related. You may simply have a dodgy sensor, such as the o2 sensor (I had hesitation when this went on mine). It could also be fuel starvation, so I would check the service items (air filter, fuel filter etc ) and if they are ok, get it on your local indies startac computer and see what the sensors are up to.
