I love my estate but it's not brilliant on fuel. Marginally better than the shed, but marginally.

Shock, horror!!

The first crack in the "best car money can buy" story??

I get better milage from ouir 3.5 petrol CLK than I do my 1.8 insignia which gives a me a crap 18 mpg around town and if lucky 33 mpg on a run at around 70 when the merc gives 34 plus..

Guess what I am looking for another 3.5 petrol in a E series.

I'm off for a small drive tomorrow, I cannot wait. I love my C class.

i have to say i agree with you. I drive a van in and out of London most days, easily doing 100k+ in 3 years, and you'd think i'd hate the thought of driving?

Nope, not when i get the chance to take the E out..........wife always offers, but i never take her up on it. Don't know what it is about this ****** car......it is soo nice to drive.

Lovely car Mika

I am interested in mpg feedback from the latest gen 350cgi petrol unit as I am thinking of switching from my C250 CDI Coupe into a C350CGI Coupe (see thread). Love the car but diesel for me has no drama and on the journeys I do, can't get the true benefit of the economy

Can you give me your real-world figures including, wragging it, and start-stop journeys in heavy traffic (average around 12mph)?

Cheers

BILL

Hi Bill

this is from an earlier post ....having got one i can report that over 4400 miles average fuel consumption is 29mpg
a nominal low is around 24-25mpg worst case
and nominal best has been up to 39mpg
this is with mixed driving plenty of around town and high speed motorway
(not ultra low rev economy drives on the motorway to get the computer to show favorable figures)
ive had it loaded up also
i expect it to improve a little as the engine loosens up and i get the chance to drive it without being loaded up and try to obtain better figures
however this coupled with the fact that i will also drive it harder as its a nice smooth and powerful unit means it probably wont change much:)
worst case in continuous heavy traffic i estimate it could dip below 20 mpg
i'll do some more figures in a while
Im doing quite a lot of mileage at present 4500 miles in the first 7 weeks

there is much talk about the relative merits related to economy with this engine
however the real beauty is the smoothness and ultimate power its deceptively fast but seems effortless
if you try one i think you wont be disappointed

Hey Mika,

Many thanks, I never really took to deisel, so am sure I'll be smitten; I think the V6 petrol is the right engine for the Coupe

I had seen your previous post but had wondered if anything had changed. The insurance and annual car tax are within £10 of each other, tyres the same (C350 is 100kg lighter than C250CDI so hopefully that shoulder scrub will be reduced) so it was only down to mpg

I knew it was time to part company with C32 when following an engine-running-defrost then my 7 mile city start-stop commute, it averaged 11mpg! What would your E350 return under these extreme conditions?

stop start nose to tail driving in heavy traffic

12 miles, approx 1 hours driving time @approx 12 mph ...mpg = 18.7

Hey Mika,

That's amazing; my diesel only just hit 24mpg the other (cold) morning!

Have been offered a 250CGI at a very very competitive price which whilst obviously won't be hot like a V6, but should be pretty handy, particularly on the journeys I do.

Will post an interesting thread soon! really appreciate your help
