Quite correct st4 i am in ireland and if i was to tell you the price of motors over here you would fill your pants (have a look at www.carzone.ie) but the only thing is the car trade here is dead at the moment with dealers (bmw, lexus, etc) closing the doors due to sales being down up to 68%, the situation quite simply is nobody has any money the banks are not giving out motor finance so if a guy has a few quid he can now buy alot of car for little dough.
In the past i have always gone to the uk for my cars and paid a dick turpin tax to register them here, have a look at v.r.t. Calculator this tells you how much you have to pay the pack of gob****es running this country for the pleasure of driving on our tractor paths.
Any way thats my rant over for the day, its a bit of a toss up at the moment to see where the best value is, im looking at paying €16000 for a 05 e 270 cdi here with a good spec and history, i know i can get much cheaper in the uk (and a better car) but by the time i pay the import tax (vrt) to the gob****es and convert the money theres not to much in the difference.
Any words of wisdom would be very welcome
by the way many thanks to one and all for the previous advise given on this particular thread

The 05 270cdi isn't cheap but not outrageous if its miles, condition, history, spec are good, - if it works out cheaper than "importing" a UK car then its a good route to go down.

Any E class is an excellent car, but one with a good history and new build will be an excellent long term proposition and serve you well.

Go and buy if it you want it, the price affordable.

Hi a-Gally,
I've had as S211 E270 (registered jan 05) for almost 1.5 years now. I moved up from a C220CDI to this car due to the new addition in the family (lots of baby stuff and more...). I cant fault the car, it's a motorway mile muncher and does it in style. I regularly do 200+ miles (3-4 hours) non-stop, it's comfortable and economical (for a car of this size). On the motorway I see 41 mpg (crusing @ 80-85), any slower and it can go up quite a bit. Around town it's more like 20-30mpg. Mine has comand, I think it's a great addition (plays mp3's), will never have another car without it :) Heated seats are a must with leather. Parkatronic is nice to have (its a big car). I believe cars after 04 have all the gremlins sorted and have nano paint.
Whatever you buy, if you get an E, Im pretty sure you'll enjoy the ride, I do! :)

Cheers
Pete

Aye, your should be able to get a 1000EUR discount. At present echange rates 15000EUR would get you a very nice E class.

SBC has never had a single failure.

are you sure about that? Alfiebeard's car went wrong and if i remember correctly (without re reading his threads) the rear brakes of the car tried to or did lock up, and the car couldnt be driven, and his wife will not use the car now since its brake failure.
