E10 or E5 ?

In my Mercedes 420sl registered 1988 which fuel should I be using ?

I‘m guessing your SL is not a daily… I’d therefore not use either and just put Super Unleaded in instead. I’m also presuming it has valve seats that can take unleaded (can’t remember when MB started fitting them)
Reason I recommend super unleaded is it’s regarded as more stable so can sit around for longer.

As a general guide if it's fitted with a three way catalytic converter it may be ok for E10. If not it's definitely not ok.

I know my 93 SL is ok but it may be the first year that is (first generation with fully electronic injection system I believe).

no only done 15k since new so stored but definatly by the responses will use E5 if taken out on the road - Thanks for all the replies

Have been able to use unleaded on MB cars since the 1950s Alloy heads usually have hardened valve seats.

Year of introduction of unleaded into Oz was 1986. I imagine they didn't just make cars especially for Oz so gather that was the year the world cars were made to suit that fuel.
