Hi can any one help. My e220 cdi at speeds between 60 - 80 mph stops going above 3000 revs or 80 mph. The kick down does not work. I rolled it down a hill today in neutral and hit speeds of 60mph the same problem occurred. When the engine is underr strain the problem will occur too and when i restart the car the fault is gone. I have replaced the MAF Sensor and a pressure sensor (MAP SEnsor) high presure pump and there is a new main ECU just being put into it. This problem has been there b4 all this work has been done. I use my car for taxi and this is making life very difficult on long journeys. Im broke and desperate at this stage. Can any1 give me some more ideas

Thank You Mike

hi Mike, your inlet manifold has a little flap in each branch close to where it bolts on to head, they are all linked by a rod underneath which is opened and closed by an elec motor. check flaps are opening, rod is attatched etc

Right.

1. Remove the engine covers
2. Look between the inletmanifold tracts with a torch
3. Feel underneath for any loose rods (plastic with a ball socket arrangement)

Have you thought about an air mass sensor problem? Only £40

How about air filter blocked?

cats blocked?

Boost pipe/intercooler leaking?

Turbo knackered?

Vacuum transducer(s) innop?

There are so many things that can cause the problem!!

I have a similer problem on a W203 220 CDI.Changed all the sensors still the same, only thing that would come up on Star was boost pressure low.Bought a new Precat off Ebay at a very good price, knocked the middle out of the centre cat,I would have liked to cut it open so I could take our the mesh but it looks like it's stainless steel and would not mig weld with my kit.The car is now just about OK,it still drops into limp mode but I have a vacuum lesk somewere so I think that is the problem just can't find it.
Your car sounds very much like mine was, another thing is my fuel consumption has improved quite a bit.Indicated 60mpg motorway at steady 70.

You can't blank the EGR off. On the older non-turbos, yes, but modern cars no.

Ok thanks parrott of doom. Just got the car back after getting the inlet manifold clean. The garage said it was filthy inside but my problems stil remains. I dont know what else to do now except sell as it is no use to me on long journeys and it can be dangerous at the times for overtaking. is there any thing else i can do.. I have talked to another person in town who has the same car he seems be getting a lot better fuel consumption than me 330 miles per 60litres is what im on he is at least getting 150mile more than me. Is there anything else i can do?????/ Help?????:(
