I had 'B' service (one spanner) in Jan.2005 on our T reg. E240 17K miles. After I collected it I noticed that the accelerator pedal was slow to return and when it did it was with a slight 'clonk'. I took it back and a mechanic adjusted the cable just inside the bonnet o/s. , and it appeared ok. However the auto gear change seemed a bit urgent. Changing at different speed/revs.
I have tried to find out if the dealer adjusted the cable in the first place and if so why, but I have not had much luck with them. My question is in 3 parts (sorry)

Does anybody know what a 'B' service consists of (in detail) ?

Does it entail them adjusting the pedal/cable, I have tried various adjustments of the cable but cannot appear to get it as it was. ?

Should this cable have such a noticable effect on the auto. gear change.?

Hope you can help. Thanks.

Location
M1, Outside lane, somewhere between Leeds and Lond
Your Mercedes
Jaguar XF 3.0 S, LR Freelander 2, Fiat 500 & Fiat Panda
B services vary depeing on mileage and age but the basic details are in the service book and on your invoice.
Not sure about the throttle cable, certainly it could upset the gearbox as throttle position is one of the critical factors, but my E240 is 'fly by wire' where the throttle cable only goes to a switch above the O/S/ firewall.

Throttle cable adjustment

Thanks for reply. The cable under the bonnet is bear at one end, and that part of it is either slack (about 1/2 " play) or taut (depending which way the adjutment nut is turned) , it appears to go through a box of tricks & the bear part attaches at the end via a cup type connector.
The adjustment nut is towards the back and appears to have an effect on the smoothness of gear change as well as when it changes and kicks down.
