1999 E240 when it first starts it makes a ticking noise the car has done 90000 miles, should i be worried about it being the timing chain. The car is about to go to the stealers for a B service and i dont want them telling me it needs changing. So whats it likely to be and the repair cost from the dealers? I may get the job done by another garage and then get the car serviced. Does this car have the duplex chain fitted?
Thank you

Yes you have a duplex chain and they rattle when they are on the way out, the tapping could be a rocker or maybe something on the tensioner, I would ask an indie to listen

I'd start with an oil change. The cam followers are hydraulic and if the oil is a bit thick then they may not pump up properly until theres a bit of heat in the engine.
