Can someone tell me if the W124 E Class was available as a 250 TD in the UK?

My main dealer says they weren't yet I've seen several models on the road which say Turbo Diesel. Are these imports?
There were even a collection of ex-fleet cars advertised on the web recently purportedly registered in 1997.

thanks

I am fairly sure that no Turbos were sold in UK in 124 body but they were in Germany.

However I think you might be mixing up model numbers as follows

for earlier 124 models 250TD meant 'touring diesel' ie an estate with a 5 cylinder diesel engine, similarly 300TD was the 6 cylinder version.

later on they changed and dropped the T so and put the model type as a prefix ie 250TD became E250D. The estate identifier was dropped.

so I think the 124 models you see advertised with a T are simply estates.

(perhaps someone else can confirm or corrrect me on this)

ps I dont wear an anorak but love mercs!

Yes! I have a 250TD which is a W124 estate with a 5 cyclinder diesel engine. It is not turbocharged. Mine is a 1989 model. The T does stand for tourer (estate).
My neighbour has an E250D which is a 1994 model.
I thought that later turbo models in W124 estate bodies were only petrol - I looked at one before purchasing mine.
