I have a 1989 E260 which was running fine until it began to slow down and finally stopped in the street. The engine was still running and the transmission lever with in Drive. I can race the engine but there is no forward movement. If I put the lever in Reverse, it backs up as normal. Park and Neutral work OK as well. However, I cannot get any forward movement even though I can hear a low level spinning/turning machine type noise. The ATF level is correct, the color and smell do not suggest overheating.

Suggestions/solutions/recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Unfortunately (opinions vary), I am in the USA and not the UK.

However, I have an opinion from a non-professional MB mechanic that I might have B2 piston problem and I wondered if anyone else might have a similar problem.

Thanks
