Hi
I have a new shape e270 cdi. 52 plate. The speedo dial reads 60 mph when doing 0mph. Then at 30mph it reads 80 mph ish,
The didital display reads the correct speed all the time its just the dial reads the wrong speed.
Not sure what the problem is, any ideas ?

I have a horrible feeling that it will need a new cluster

unless someone's had the needle off and bent the shaft.

nothing to lose by taking the clocks apart and having a fiddle by the sound of it

Smart + others :)
We've had the needles fall off/ not worked at all before, the speedo can be repaired but its a send away job, 4-5 day turn around.

Call one of the reconditioners - speedofixer or BBA-Reman and see what they say. A new cluster is around £800 so getting yours looked at is going to be preferable. As they say, it could just be a loose needle. (Hopefully).

To put the needle back on in the correct place requires a calibration test bed.

So it is poss that it might be repairable. 4/5 days is okay as I have a van I can use. Is it an expensive repair ? Who has to take the speedo out ?

google "Speedofixer" and "BBA-Reman". They both recondition car clusters.

You may be in the same boat as I was on my 210. Too early. These days anyone will fix a 210 dash but back then I couldn't find anyone to touch mine. I haven't seen anyone advertising 211 dashes yet but they soon will. Mine was replaced under warranty when a bulb behind the rev counter went! - so there will be plenty of people unhappy at paying £800 for a new bulb which opens it up for these guys to make a killing.
Give them a call and see what they say.
As far as removal is concerned, you can do it yourself if you wish. I imagine it's just a tight friction fit as it is with the 210. Push out from behind and it should come out, or pop down to your dealer and buy the removal tool (or from ebay). Alternatively, get your local indie to remove it and send it off. Just remember that once it's disconnected you mustn't put the key in so make sure it's parked where it will stay.

I did say earlier that this requires a test bed, Speedo fixer will not have one, the needle just presses on but how do you find true Zero.

If you are going to take the cluster out anyway, then remove the screws and take the top cover off, the pointer can then be pressed on, look on the rear of the pointer to see if there are any calibration marks, and on the shaft.
