E300D gear ratios

Hello,

I am the proud owner of a 1995 E300D, which I aqcuired about a week ago. One thing I note is that at 70 mph the engine is doing around 2800 RPM. This gearing seems a bit short, is it possible that it's not dropping into top?

this is perfectly normal, infact it seems a little low if you have a 4-speed auto, though I think the ratios are different on the estate. My E300D estate does around 2500rpm at 55-60mph in 4th, and about 4000 @ 90.
