Hi folks,

I think I have a faulty injector on my car as have the following issues:

little smoke on kickdown - only really noticable at night with cars following
car is thirsty at slow speeds (never above 30mpg) but seems ok on a run (37mpg cruising at 70ish) which seem ok for an auto?
if car is left idling to warm up it smokes for the first 100yds badly
car is not starting quite as well as it was

Spoke to indie who confimed injectors and told me he'd change all 6 at £120 a pop:( and he couldn't do it for a few weeks..
I took the engine cover off and it looks like some have been changed so the question is how do I test which are faulty and is this a DIY job? Do you have to de - pressurise the fuel system?

Cheers in advance, Simon.

i would get them done at a injector place had mine done the bolts that hold the injectors are prone to snapping so done risk doing them yourself ???? let them check em cheaper in the long run if bolts snap then its driling and helicoling exspensive £120 is a good price all so check maf and egr valve too

Had a much more serious problem with mine and went to a few indies - prices ranged from £125+vat to 250+vat each!!!

Took the car to Merc Dealer - £50 to do the check on the injectors, numbers 1 and 3 were faulty - total cost for replace etc £450 inc VAT and all timing to ecu etc sorted.

You do not sound as though you need more than 1.

I live near Turriff in Aberdeenshire.
Your Mercedes
ML 270 Cdi and S type Jag 2.7 Diesel Sport Saloon, and now a VW diesel GT golf
ML 270 cdi injector service.

I had the 5 injectors removed, cleaned and complete new nozzles fitted tested ,set up, and refitted with new clamp bolts fitted at Airylea Motors in Aberdeen for £650 all in.
The clamp bolts are "one tripper" ie throw away, as they are stretch fit and should not be used twice.
After the service I am now getting over 31 mpg, sweeter and smoother running, ZERO smoke apart when I "floor it" and there is a little black smoke but more than acceptable.
My car had done 85,000 miles at that time and now runs like a new one.
Money well spent.
