Just changed my thermostat on my 2001 e320 cdi. Talk about a PITA. Every other thermostat change on any of my cars was a 5 minute job. This one however has run into problems. The first issue I had was breaking the plastic t-piece on one of the fuel lines that runs along the top of the thermostat housing. Luckily the MB dealewr had one in stock and I changed it today. Got it fitted and restarted the car. Let it idle whilst I checked for leraks etc. Then it cut out and I've not been able to start it again... I'm waiting on the battery charging.

I think I may have air trapped in the lines or maybe in the fuel pump. Is there a procedure for this or have I overlooked anything? The fuel line that I changed was the one that terminates on the top of the engine and has a plastic fitting that looks it may be a pressure relief valve.

Not your day,, one must get all of the air out of the system, if you can see any air in any pipe, the fuel lines cannot work.

You can compress air, but not fuel, so any air in the system will stop it from starting.

Once the battery is fully charged it will spin the engine over much faster

Thanks Malcolm, hopefully it'll clear its throat once I get to try again.
