oh dear , that's a bit more complicated than I expected , is the unit the same model year ?

Yeah same year but different variant.

Is it possible for ecu coding?

Hi Rich

Thanks for updating everyone, very helpful as I have the same issue.

I just rebuilt an engine from scratch and installed it... All good except camshaft signal is different and same problem as you. I have some custom tune Mods on mine and trying to figure out if it can be tuned out. What did you do? Did you pull the motor or is there an easier work around?

An update would be very appreciated... Already $22k CAD into this repair and the truck still doesn't run right....

Thank you

I have same issue , but in my case engine does not start . Code B6/1 hall sensor .
Swapped engine from older cdi 642.940 to bluetec 642.820. all sensors are from old engine, injectors also ..

Camshafts are the same according to epc part number also chain gears are the same...

What did you find out? any help would be appreciated...

Hi Nevon

Generally the truck will still start if you have this issue, so you may have another issue (just long cranking when starting and dash code... and some surging while driving)

As for an update, no one could help me, and after speaking with a few very experienced tune shops... tuning it out is not an option. I still had my core engine... so I swapped out the cam myself.

I recommend taking the old cam to a shop to get polished and inspected. Then follow the first part of this tutorial (only the removal of the passenger side cover, holding the chain, and removal of the cam.. then replace the old compatible cam in reverse order).
https://mbworld.org/forums/diesel-f...ing-chain-replacement-diy-gl-350-blutech.html

I managed to do the job in about 4 hours. My DIY shop quoted me $8k to do it! then I shamed them when I showed them the cam could be removed from the top ... truck has been running awesome ever since. Be careful removing the fuel line... as I did wreck one small o-ring on the top of the injector, but by some miracle, had a very similar o-ring in my bin of parts which worked perfectly.

Good luck...

Thank you so much for fast reply ....
I did check and it looks that camshafts are different only intake right side, where is the camshaft sensor .
old design camshaft is 642 050 36 01, new design after 2010 is 642 050 61 01...That explains why I have code but unfortunately does not why it will not start .. I checked fuel- all good , now I will have to find compression tester to check. I did in Star and kept saying cyl4 and 5cyl low ..
As far as swapping new cam , I am familiar with job I did few chain jobs in these engines ....

Thank you ...

No problem! Glad my pain has helped someone else....

Best of luck solving the no start. As you've done a full swap out... it's probably something much simpler than you think. Check all your harness connections etcetera. Whenever I do a big job, there is always something I miss.

I think that generally the engine ecu should move with the engine unless one has the facilities to reflash them to origional spec ?
