+1 for Hatchbag, I have one in my E400d All Terrain. Loving the car and drive train too. The engine is an absolute peach.
For the Hatchbag - did you stick the velcro tabs on the trim along the sides of the boot? We've been wary about sticking them down and leaving a mess when we sell the car on.

Some of the commentators on this thread had missed the point about towing. The petrol-engined big E-Classes, the E53 or E63, are AMG and aren't plated for towing - hence not suitable for the OP (or me). If you don't want an SUV, then there isn't much choice... We are also on the lookout for E400d AllTerrain for the same reason.
