I was out in an SL500 the other day,the car drove fine untill it reached speeds of over 120mph,then i could feel a missfire, has this car got a rev limiter fitted on it and should it kick in at that speed...

it is possible the permenant speed control has been set for snow tyres. the germans dont like them going over 120mph with snow tyres on. to reset it you will need to fiddle with the stalk and the ignition car while the engine is off i think. some combination of pressing the 2 works. dunno what it is as i have forgot.

once you work it out, set it at 70mph. then you wont get done. or were you on a track.

what model sl500? the R230 should'nt misfire. it just disables the signal from the poten......pedal thing, to the other bit that tells another bit to put fuel in.

in effect what happens is the car reaches the speed you set it at then stops accelaerating. you get the feeling the pedal pushes down and nothing happens but the engine shouldnt misfire.

Think you have it right Joe,when i reached 120mph there seamed to be no power and when the speed droped there was power again, hence the sence of a missfire........ps the car was on a track day at Knockhill racetrack........

disable your permenant speed control and try it again.
