 Driving along perfectly happily when the following symptoms occurred:

- ABS light came on
- no response from the engine when pressing accelerator
- tacho needle started dancing
- eventually lost more and more speed
- pulled up on the hard shoulder and car eventually cut-out
- Battery drained completely

Got it towed home and jump started it - fired up instantly!

It has a fairly new battery (less than 6 months old), the voltage regulator was replaced a couple of months ago (after symptoms of dim lights, slow wipers etc)

All ideas gratefully received
