Engine ratling

Hello everyone my e class w212 123k miles is making a ratling/shaking noise when i start the car especially when cold what can be causing the ratling?

Something loose then. Probably needs something tightening up. You need to do a bit of investigation as to where the noise is coming from exactly otherwise we can only randomly guess as to the cause.

This answer is basically correct though I'm going to make a random guess anyway and suggest that the engine mountings are worn.

or a loose heat shield

OM651 so could be impending doom as chain stretched and cams have worn already jumping a couple of teeth.

Could be heater plugs or injector problem as well. Visit to garage recommended

the noise could be caused by oil leaking onto the belt, or misaligned belt pulleys.

Could be the airfilter assembly.. that makes a terrible low noise when its not held on properly.
I think the op needs to post a video so we can hear what type of noise it is ?
