engine stuttering then stopping 1972 350sl

hi, i own a 1972 350sl, when i first start the car it runs brilliantly for around ten/fifteen minutes then as it warms the engine begins to stutter and then when i press the gas pedal it run to a stop. i've changed the ballast resistors, although these are second hand so it could still be them, is there anything else i should look at, i.e the choke, running lean etc. any helpwould be appreciated. thanks

As the car warms , does the exhaust go black and smokey if it does it could be the cold start valve stuck on 98 in the link
