Does anyone think I'd be better of looking for another engine,
I called a guy this morning abot one,he didnt have any left but he said I could expect to pay about £200 for one,and off him it would be guaranteed, whats the verdict?

Regards

Eh,just forget that one cause' I suppose by the time I get someone to fit it could cost maybe £400+ all in.still cheaper to get it fixed.

Merc.

I'm sorry that i sound like the eternal nag, but what am i always preaching??????????????

START WITH THE BASICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When you have got the cash together, get it to someone REPUTABLE, let them get the head off, if you're lucky it will only require a gasket replacement, (i would personally skim it as a matter of course).

You may be unlucky and find that its a cracked head. At this point don't panick, and put the noose away, this might be a worse case scenario with regards to the head, This MAY then be the time to consider engine swaps.

Right now i recommend the following.

Go out for a curry, which is garanteed to rectify your current state of near suicide!!

Dave

I would but I dont like them much!.

The garage who I went to & got the price from say they would get it skimmed anyway as a matter of course.

To All

Iv'e got a neighbour doing the job for me,but he's not any "kwik fit" mechanic,no,no!.I was in his house yesterday with the dreaded Haynes book, and we were going over everything.

All I can say is he sounds as if he really know his stuff!,y'see this guy is a Scientific Instrument maker,he's did all sorts of jobs.he fixes all the neighbours cars and comes highly recomended,so we'll see.

He knows of certain ways to check the head to see if it needs skimming, which I hope not,but known my luck!!.
I'll keep you all posted,cheers.

Regards

Ps.now,I might, just might! make it to the Cots!,if all goes well.

Good luck to the pair of you.

Thankfully you have got a much simpler engine than in your 500, so things shouldnt be too bad.
