Error codes in Benz cars

I would greatly appreciate it if someone here could throw some light on the list of error codes flashed out by the car's in-built diagnostic computer. What I would like to see is a list of all the possible error codes that may be displayed on the dash under the speedometer and what they all mean or what they are trying to warn the car owner. Mine has lately shown code 11 and a spannar displayed. This should mean some mechanical fault or electrical or what? Can it ever be more specific and at least point the technician or me in the right direction so that I would not end up as an electronic cash withdrawal machine with no limit. Cheers.

Which model MB do you own? A spanner indicates that a service is required. Late models use a countdown system to supplement the service indicator. When the spanner appears in the facia the number usually indicates the number of miles to go before the next recommended service. I assume your vehicles handbook is unavailable so you cannot look up what the 'code' means in which case your next best option is to contact your nearest MB dealer, or independent, if you know one. They should be able to tell you what the code means.

When you mentioned 'error codes', I first though of diagnostic trouble codes of which there is a least one complete listing in this Forum. The listings also give the definition of the codes.
