Hi Guys,
I am having a nightmare..... I have bought aftermarket cats from German Sweedish and French.
I was assured that the cats were of good quality and the would not rattle or sound tinney like other aftermarket cats and was assured that i should have the same sound as the original.
So on hearing this i purchased 2 x Cats for the SL and had them fitted.
After having them fitted i heard rattles from under the car so took it back and engineer found that the cats were not aligned properly. Got this sorted but still heard a rattling noise on accelaration.
After two mre trips to the garage, they put it down to back pressure causing a resonating sound between the cat and the manifold.
I then decided that i had been told one thing and what was actually happeing was another with regard to the noise. Went back to GSF and they advsied that i drive the car for 1-2 months and the noise will settle down, I did not accept this and decided that i wanted to buy new cats from Mercedes and would like my money back from GSF.
GSF are being addament that a resonating sound is not a rattle, as i explained to the regional manger im no expert and that if jo public heard the sound they would also claim it to be a rattle. My Engineer who fitted the exhaust has been in and expalined but they still not giving my money back!!!! I have subsequently been told that abnormall amounts of back pressure will cause damage to seals and the engine overall.... GSF have now asked for my engineer to write a report to submit to them, im really getting fed up now as it has been almost 2 months since the start of this saga....
Any views or suggestions appreciated
