Exhaust Heat shield E220 CDI (2000)

The exhaust heat shield has come loose under my E200 cdi. At tick over it rattle and is very annoying. I'm looking to just remove the heat shield that is over the back box and above the centre section of the car. Has anyone done this and is there any detriment?

Don't remove it fix it.It is there for a reason.Ordinarily, the presumption is with Mercedes that the reason is a good one.

It should be fairly easy to fix t back into position,,it acts as a heat shield, baffle plate, silencer and aerofoil
