Does anybody know anything about maintenance and or guarantees on
SLK 200 models when taken abroad?
Will Mercedes South Africa honour these when purchased from Merc UK?

Just wondering what my options are.
Container on ship costs around £1400 from Britain down South but the math on the VAT back (uk side) and import duties (on SA side) + other costs are yet to be made.

NO IDEA what to do, but LOVE that car, just can't see it go! Biggest part paid off as well, trade in value not good enough! :)

Any advice would be GREAT!
THANKS LIZ

Welcome to the site!

I dont think that the warranty will cover you in S/A

Each country has different rules and regs, i,e. Germany and England have different warranties.

Sombody might have the full info, have to wait and see !

I thought the warranty was covered all over the world. I could be wrong as I usually am. Why not ring Mercedes and ask them.
I'd interested in your project of exporting to SA, Ive just come back from India and whilst there I spoke to several locals in Goa about exporting MB from the UK to Goa, I only saw 2 there one was the Mayors and the others was a W129 S with most parts missing.

The warranties are valid, but the length of that warrantee can be different.

I always thought that MB themselves gave a 2 year warranty so this is worldwide. But, MBUK add a further year themselves and so this isn't. As you've used up the 2 years, I doubt you would be able to drive into an SA dealership, have a repair done, and drive out without paying.
That said, it may be worth a call to MBUK customer services as it is possible that they would refund you for a claim if raised from an SA dealership.and paid by you first.

Export cart to S Africa

If you want to import a car to S Africa you need an import permit from DTI Pretoria & you need a homologation certificate from the SA Bureau of Standards that costs R 2700 ( may have gone up)

If you are an SA resident working overseas, you can get a concession on the import duty & import duty free provided you have owned car fro more than 6 months

Thanks for everyone's imput. I will check with MBUK and perhaps germany themselves as well with Regards to the Maintenance. I have a different query now as well and maybe you guys can help.
Are there ANY particular settings that I need to do on my SLK 200 Kompressor in the new country, that is required to protect my car's engine life?
And additionally, any particular settings related to performance?

Please let me know.
I will post the story about the export and the shipping + maintenance plan thingy as soon as I get a reply.

Thx

I would also be very interested in finding out the costs once it's all worked out.
The selection of cars that side are incredible compared to here, :)
So maybe it'll be worth my while bringing one over at some point.
