Took my car for its first long run yesterday. Ok relatively speaking 53 miles isn't exactly long, but with an annual mileage of under 5k it's long for my cars. :D
The journey is one I know well and is mainly motorway/duel carriageway with a short amount of urban at either end, and is approx. 106 miles round trip measured door to door.
It was my first chance to see what the average fuel consumption is on my car over a longer distance, and the result surprised and impressed me.
Ok I wasnt in a hurry and for the most part had cruise set to 58mph, but sometimes it's just nice to relax and watch all the other cars whizzing past....it's less stressful and you still arrive at your destination not far behind somebody who puts their foot down. :D Oh and I still had to overtake a few other cars even travelling at this low speed. ;)
Taking the above into account I think an almost 60mpg avearage is very good for a 224 PS engine, and it actually broke this barrier on the return journey.
The return journey was in the dark and it was interesting to watch the Multibeam LED headlamps do their thing.
Only downside of the journey was that I have not yet figured out my seating position that doesnt result in a pain in my lower back.

they are very jazzy seats :D
Thank you. The 2 tone red/black was a no cost option, and I'm really glad I picked it because together with the matching red on the doors it lifts the interior so much. :)

Went the Priory Birmingham last Saturday & Sunday a 46 mile return journey mostly motorway.
Took the SLC250d on the Saturday 57mpg. On the Sunday took the E350CDI 54mpg.
Has your CLA got the 9 speed box, did it get into 9th at 58mpg?

No its just a 7 speed box. the highest the CLA goes is 8 speed with the diesel and fire breathing 45 S models.
58mph in 7th gear is only 1500rpm in my car.
I am super impressed with the mpg.....its the sort of consumption I would expect to see from a diesel not a petrol. :geek:
Will be interesting to see how much it drops with a higher average speed though.

And by coincidence exactly the same mpg at almost the same average speed. :)

My OBC said 58.8 mpg on a 400 mile round trip to Leicester mostly cruising on motorways but it was actually 57. It was flickering between 57.6 and 58.8 so I stopped and filled up as soon as I was near home to check but it had settled on 58.8 for the last few miles.
